Courthouse repairs to be discussed by Lauderdale County Bar Association Supreme Court Chief Justice Bill Waller Jr. will address the Lauderdale County Bar Association at noon Oct. 30 regarding the need to restore the 110-year-old Lauderdale County Courthouse. The Bar Association will meet at Weidmann’s Restaurant. Mississippi Bar General Counsel Adam Kilgore also will present an ethics program to the Bar Association. The courthouse needs major renovations to roofing, plumbing, heating and air conditioning, said retired Court of Appeals Judge Larry Roberts, a member of the Courthouse Renovation Committee. “We want to bring attention to it. We are trying to get something done,” said Committee Chair Will Parker. Maintaining courthouse facilities in good repair is a priority for Chief Justice Waller. He has lent his support to other counties in their efforts to repair, renovate and preserve their courthouses. The original two-story structure was built in 1905, Parker said. A third floor was added, and a jail structure was built on top of that in the 1930s by the Works Progress Administration, WPA. The jail has not been used since the 1990s. #### |
